About Eleanor

Eleanor Henderson, acupuncture and functional medicine in Bexhill, East Sussex

Eleanor Henderson established Acupuncture South East in 2012.  Prior to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture, Eleanor used to work in sports massage & lymphatic drainage massage, but after a car accident which broke her hand, she wasn't left with enough strength to continue. She ended up having some acupuncture on herself to help, & within 3 sessions had nearly full movement back in her hand - the rest is history!

She studied acupuncture at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture & completed her degree with First Class Honours at the University of East London. She also studied & worked in China obtaining a Certificate in Clinical Practice from the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nanjing, China.

She is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), a voluntary register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA). This Accredited Voluntary Registration scheme was set up by the government to improve standards & safety for the benefit of the public & demonstrates her commitment to high professional standards, to enhancing safety & delivering a better service. She is covered by full public indemnity & liability insurance.

More recently, she has become increasingly interested in combining Functional Medicine/nutrition into her practice to enable a more rounded understanding of health, qualifying to become a practitioner of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition. Functional lab work helps to identify malfunctions & potential healing opportunities at a subclinical (pre-disease) level within the body from internal chemical/biochemical hidden stressors in the:

  • Hormone

  • Immune

  • Digestion

  • Detoxification

  • Energy Production

  • Nervous system

Conventional medicine is an amazing, life-saving tool. When surgery or fast-acting pharmaceuticals are necessary, it saves lives. But for some people living with on-going chronic conditions, conventional medicine isn't able to find a workable living solution for them, occasionally leaving them with more side-effects than they desire. Sometimes a more general, holistic approach to daily health can be more beneficial. Natural ways to heal the body allowing it to return to a healthy balanced state, physiologically, mentally & emotionally.

Eleanor's main belief is to help educate people as to how & why our body functions in the way it does & what we can do to support it in order for it to heal itself - "We don't medicate, we educate".  By working in a non-specific manner using tailored protocols for each individual helps them  achieve desired results using:

  • Diet

  • Rest

  • Exercise

  • Stress Reduction  (whether this is mental/emotional, physical, or biochemical)

  • Supplementation (Supplements are just a part of the protocol, allowing the body to heal, repair & restore function)

Having previously worked in various clinics & community multi-bed clinics in London & the South East, Eleanor moved to Bexhill in 2017 & now covers Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill, Eastbourne & Battle in East Sussex.

I must admit I was sceptical about acupuncture but was very pleased with the treatment and outcome. My sciatica meant I was unable to drive for more than 30 minutes but following treatment I was able to enjoy a 2 week driving holiday pain free.
